VINTA/SULU TRUCKER
VINTA/SULU TRUCKER
Step out with a bold statement when rockin' our Vinta/Sulu crown.
Depicting the sails [bukay] and the bifurcated prows and sterns of the Vinta, a type of outrigger boat from the Philippines, the vibrant colors of the Vinta sails are drawn to resemble the gaping mouth of the crocodile and the resplendent colors of the sea, sunsets and vast skies of the Philippines.
The Philippines, before it was named Las Islas Filipinas by the Spanish, was a conglomerate of sultanates. The Vinta was instrumental to connecting our islands and people, in that it was used for traveling, fishing, and commerce. When we think of the Philippines, we often do not reflect enough on its Muslim history, when much of pre-colonial history begins in these roots. Such is the origin of the Vinta.
